Where will I go on a 3rd year internship?

It is expected that the field assignment will be in an inter-cultural setting anywhere in the world, including North America. Students are encouraged to be thinking and praying about possible placements well in advance.

During their 2nd year of study, students will meet with the Director of the ICS Department to pray and discuss possible field placement options.

What organization will I go with?

The College will work primarily with the following organizations to create Internship options for students:

• TREK, a division of Mennonite Brethren Missions and Services International
• Mennonite Church Canada Missions
• Mennonite Missions Network (Mennonite Church U.S.A.)
• Mennonite Central Committee

It is possible, and may be preferable in some cases, for a student to work with another organization, provided that suitable arrangements can be negotiated with the organization, student, and College.

What will I be doing when I get there?

Students will spend the first few weeks of placement in language training & acquisition. Specific service will vary based on the assignment.

It is expected that approximately 80% of the intern's time will be focused on the missionary assigment, while the remaining 20% is assigned to the reflective & academic study elements.

How long is the term?

It is expected that the field asignment will last at least 8 months.

Will I serve by myself?

Part of the criteria for determining field placement is the care & community available to the student. Although travel to a cross-cultural setting may be alone, the student will work closely with a Mentor during their term.

CBC views the Mentor as a very crucial person in the internship. The Mentor serves as a model, supervisor, and coach in helping the student work with the Internship goals.

For more information on the Mentor's role, see the syllabus link on the previous page.

How much will it cost?

In general our design goal is that the costs of the internship would be approximately the same as a year spent in residence at CBC. Total costs for the year will be the cost of the placement plus current tuition costs (Tuition is approx $2500) (see syllabus for more info).
