urban mission adventure (uma)
UMA is a four day urban plunge into the heart of the city of Vancouver, designed to expose students to the joys and challenges of urban ministry. Growing a heart for the city is our focus.
Vancouver offers many diverse experiences and cultures. During UMA students spend an afternoon or evening exploring the downtown. Here we find diversity, such as Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden - a tranquil place of meditation in the midst of a busy city.

All first year students participate in UMA, with faculty, staff, alumni and senior students providing leadership. It is a great bonding and learning opportunity for all first year students, often remarked by graduating students as being their most memorable and life-changing experience while at CBC.
Team members get to experience all types of cuisine - here's one UMA team enjoying their Ethiopian dinner!
UMA students will find their UMA experience to include a number of activities. Exploring the downtown and various ethnic cuisine as previously mentioned are two highlights. Other components include service projects at various missions and organizations, specifically serving the downtown eastside of Vancouver. Involvement at local churches and street churches is also a possibility.
Two UMA students help clean up at the Dodson Rooms on East Hastings...and apparently really enjoy it!
A team of students prepare to lead a service on Saturday night at Living Waters on East Hastings.
Our goal for UMA is for students to grow in their worldview in their own backyard. We hope and pray that by doing UMA we help our students gain a greater perspective of what is happening in our world and start to dialogue and take action in connecting with people in the everyday.
