Name: Steve Kim
Year: 4th year
Program &
Major: BA in Biblical Studies (Diploma in Worship Arts 2007)
Home Town: Port Moody, British Columbia
A former Jazz Studies student at
Capilano College in North Vancouver, I noticed that my focus was a bit off (‘a bit’ is an understatement) when I realized that my musical talent is a
gift from God. In trying to be the best musician around, I was constantly looking out for my own glory, rather than using that gift to glorify the
One who really deserves it.
That realization led me to CBC.
I found the Worship Arts program at CBC diverse, soundly grounded, and, most
importantly, God-centered. Now, I can take the steps to go beyond getting emotional over musical notes; I have been equipped to serve God with
my musical gift in a deeper, spiritual sense. And that, I believe, is what God wants to see His children do – grow mature in faith. I am
looking forward to my next two years of study where I will enter the Biblical Studies program and focus in more closely to the word.

Name: Andrea Ykema
Year: 4th year
Program & Major: BA in Outdoor Leadership
Home Town: Canadensis, Pennsylvania
The Outdoor Leadership program at Columbia is more than a place to hone your technical skills - it is a place to develop a sense of physical
purpose in your community and work. Just as I did, most OL students join with the desire to climb hard, paddle hard, and push every
limit. But while the training we receive does equip us to be professional members of our field, we are asked deeper questions throughout our
four years - what is the place of Creation in Christianity? How does guiding in the outdoor industry fulfill a higher noble purpose? What
makes a guide authentically excellent? It is my hope that you will explore Columbia's OL program thoroughly. Feel free to get in touch
with me to explore the impressive opportunities that Columbia's OL program has to offer.

Name: Brittany Larson
Year: 3rd year
Program & Major: BA in Youth Work and representing iCert
Home Town: Sublimity, OR
Hey! My Name is Brittany Larson and I am a 3rd year student here at Columbia Bible College and have loved every moment here at the college. I am
from Salem Oregon, so this is a new area to me, but coming to CBC has made this transition that much easier. My desire as a youth worker is to work
in the lives of middle and high school girls in any area they may be needing guidance. I have a passion for mentoring students and bringing them to a
deeper love for the Lord, in hopes that they will strive to live a life for Him. Being at CBC, I have had many opportunities to develop stronger
skills in the areas I am most passionate about. I was a Resident Assistant for one year in the girls dorm, as well as a leader on the Vespers Worship
Team. There are many opportunities to get involved at CBC and learning more about what God has planned for your life. I would love to talk with you
about CBC and answer any questions you may have. Email me if you would like!

Name: Jaclyn Pell
Year: 4th year
Program & Major: BA in Caregiving and Counselling
Home Town: Kelowna, BC
I am currently completing my fourth year in the Caregiving and Counseling program, and have enjoyed every moment of it so far! During my first
year, I was a resident in the junior dorms and I had the opportunity to meet a number of other girls. The fact that I enjoy meeting new people
inspired me to become a Resident Assistant in my second year at school. I resided in the senior dorms just off campus, and was responsible for about
twenty other girls in my unit. It was quite a transition due to the fact that it was my first year in senior dorms, and I was also one of the
youngest people in my unit! Nonetheless, it was an amazing experience and everyone was supportive of each other and, in turn, we were very close. It
was awesome to see God working in and through the girls in my unit, and be able to be there and talk with them about it. During my second year I also
helped out in the admissions office. This was a great experience because I was able to take part View Days and interact with people interested in
attending, and answer questions from a student’s perspective. Being involved in the CBC community has not only strengthened my skills needed for my
degree, but I have also gained a variety of support systems (i.e. teachers, faculty, and fellow students) to help with my education and my Christian
faith.

Name: Brad Steeves
Year: 4th year
Program & Major: BA in Worship Arts
Home Town: Abbotsford, British Columbia
After graduating from high school, I was uncertain of what I wanted to do, or which path I wanted to take (which I’m sure many of you can relate
with). So I ended up working for a couple years, and in my case, all I ever found myself in were ‘go-nowhere’ jobs and I began to feel really lost in
every decision I made and in everything I did. I soon was challenged in my thought process through talking with a local youth pastor in town and he
got me thinking about Columbia.
Columbia has been one of the most rewarding, yet challenging experiences of my life. I entered my first year having no clue what I was walking
into. But as soon as classes started, the community built quickly and I felt right at home. The relationships I’ve built here for the past two years
are definitely life-long and I know that it will continue to build in upcoming years. Not only have I built great friendships with fellow students,
but with the prof’s as well. Everyone is on a first name basis which creates a much more personal atmosphere.
The Worship Arts program here at Columbia is one of the best that can be offered. Tony, Nelson and the rest of the crew in Worship Arts make it a
phenomenal program, and offer great instruction and insights on their philosophies and theologies of the multi-level word ‘worship’. I am challenged
day and day out on my thought process of what true worship is.
Contact me if you want some more info on Worship Arts! See you soon.

What does it mean for the Gospel to take concrete shape in our world? How does the Kingdom of God work itself out, not only spiritually,
but economically, politically, socially, even environmentally? Is it really Good News for a world full of war, injustice, and poverty?
A third year student in the Biblical Studies: Community Development program, I have been fascinated with these questions. CBC has provided a
remarkable atmosphere in which to wrestle with them. I've been surrounded by others asking many of these same questions, taken classes where we are
encouraged to face them, and lifted them up to God in prayer over and over with this school community. After a good year studying in Worship
Arts, I switched into Community Development because that seemed to be where God was taking my heart. This track has given me the chance to
more fully address some of these questions, so difficult to answer and even more difficult to live. If all this interests you, feel free to contact
me. I'd be glad to talk with you more about the program.
