Types of Financial Aid

 

There are many types of financial aid available to CBC students. Here is a list & glossary of information

Grants - money given to a student for educational expenses. Grants do not need to be paid back.

Scholarships - funds awarded in recognition of academic achievement

Bursary - funds awarded on the masis of need. Satisfactory academic perfomance is usually required.

Loans - Money awarded to a student for education expenses. Loans must be repaid.

Interest - Free Loan - a loan that must be re-paid without any interest being charged (loans from family members or special organizations)

Low-Interest Loans - a loan that has a small interest charged in addition to repaying the principal (canada or StudentAid BC loans)

Regular Loans or Line of Credit - Usually a loan from the bank with either a fixed or variable interest rate.
