Haugan finishes 5th

Warren Haugan had a 5th place finish at the BCCAA Provincial golf tournament in Nanaimo October 21-22.

Haugan, a first year player from Fort St. John, shot a 76-78 to finish with a final score of 154, good enough for a 5th place tie. James Wieler (Manitoba) shot a 95-87 for 29th place.

Both players showed significant improvements in their play this season, but Haugan was a contender in almost every tournament. He had his best finish of the year October 1 when he put two solid rounds together for a second place finish.

The CBC golf team will continue to practice at Chilliwack Golf & Country Club.

Haugan 30th at Nationals
Oct. 15, 2006

Warren Haugan gained some valuable playing experience as he was competing against the best college players in Canada at the CCAA Golf Nationals in Quebec October 10-13.

Haugan shot an opening round 86 followed by a second round 82 to finish with a two day total of 168. Will Mitchell of Durham College was the tournament champion, shooting a 76 and 74 to finish with a 150 score. The top BC golfer was Mark Kitts of Malaspina who finished with a 157.

Haugan solid with Silver

Warren Haugan put together his best back-to-back rounds of the season to take home a silver medal at the BCCAA tournament in Surrey this weekend.

Haugan, a native of Fort St. John, shot an opening round 74, two shots behind the clubhouse leader. On Sunday, Haugan shot a 75 for a two day total of 149. He finished four strokes behind the tournament winner, Mark Kitts of Malaspina. Blake Mithrush, the winner of the first two tournaments, finished in third place with a two day total of 152.

Haugan has shown he can compete with BC's best, but has never put together two solid back-to-back rounds in tournament play. Last weekend he shot an opening round 84 before closing out the tournament with a 71.

Warren's teammate, James Wieler (Steinbach, MB) shot an 85 and 95 to finish in 29th place.

Haugan will be competing at the CCAA PING National Championships in Sainte-Foy, PQ October 10-13.

Up and Down Round for Golfers
Sept. 24, 2006

Warren Haugan and James Wieler will be looking to put together solid back-to-back rounds after an up and down weekend at Royalwood Golf Course.

Haugan opened the tournament shooting a 84 (14th place) but took 12 strokes off his card on Sunday to finish with a 71, good enough to move in a tie for 13th place. Wieler opened the tournament with one of his best rounds of the year, a 85, but shot a 96 on Sunday to finish well back in a 29th place tie.

For the second consecutive week, Blake Mithrush of Camosun shot 70 and 68 for a 138 two day total for first place.

Both Haugan and Wieler will be competing in Surrey Sept.30/Oct.1 at Belmont Golf Course.

Haugan ties for 13th in Golf Debut
Sept. 18, 2006

Warren Haugan, a first year player from Fort St. John, BC made his season debut at the Selkirk College tournament and finished with a respectable two day score of 163.

Haugan had a rough opening round and shot an 88, 14 shots behind the opening round leader, which put him in 24th place. But Haugan settled his nerves for Sunday and shot the 3rd best score on the day, a 75, only 5 shots behind the leader. Haugan jumped from 24th place to finish with a respectable 13th place finish in a field of 32 golfers.

Warren displayed his power on Saturday and won the longest drive contest. His teammate, James Wieler of Manitoba, finished in 30th place with a two day total of 189.

Both players will be looking to improve their standing when the compete at Royalwood Golf Course (Abbotsford) September 23 & 24. The tournament is hosted by Columbia Bible College.

Demant departs CBC
Make no mistake, Tim Demant looks back fondly on his decade-long posting as athletic director and men’s volleyball coach at Columbia Bible College. But listening to Demant describe his new gig at Goshen College in Indiana, it quickly becomes clear that the 36-year-old feels like he’s died and gone to athletic director heaven.

Athletics Awards Night

Bearcats Finish 4th
The Columbia Bible College Bearcats men’s basketball team may not have matched last year’s bronze medal finish at provincials, but the team is not necessarily complaining. The Bearcats finished fourth in the B.C. Colleges Athletic Association (BCCAA) provincial championships held in Prince George, after losing the bronze medal game to Victoria’s Camosun College Chargers 95-81 on Saturday.

'Cats Ballers Go North
The Columbia Bearcats men's basketball is off to Prince George for the BCCAA Championships. They will face the Malaspina Mariners on Thursday evening in their first game.

Bearcats Win Bronze at Provincials
Despite being the sixth and final seed heading into the BC Colleges Provincial Championships in Nanaimo this past weekend, the Columbia Bearcats women’s volleyball team returned home with a Bronze medal after defeating their cross-town rivals from UCFV 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21) to win the bronze.

Bearcats to Play for Bronze
The women's volleyball team lost to a powerful UBCO Lakers squad in the semi-finals of the BCCAA Provincial Championships on Friday. The Bearcats will now face the loser of the match between UCFV and Malaspina.

'Cats Win in Historic Upset
The 6th seeded Bearcats women's volleyball team have defeated the 3rd seeded Capilano College Blues in the opening game of the BCCAA 2008 Provincial Championships in Nanaimo.

Bearcats Earn All-Star Honors
Two Bearcat volleyball players were honored by the BCCAA as league All-Stars. Cheyla Reader was voted to the 1st All-Star Team by BCCAA head coaches. Men's team standout Chad Friesen was voted to the 2nd All-Star Team.
