Soccer ends with a Win

The men's soccer team closed out a successful season with a 2-1 win over the Langley Clones on Sunday.
Al Gillespie opened the scoring with his 10th goal of the season when he headed in a corner kick from Greg Falk. Doug Wiens scored to make it 2-0 but his goal was disallowed. The 'Cats kept the momentum when Gillespie sent in Joel Rempel on a breakaway that was stopped on his first shot but put in his rebound.
The Clones scored with 30 seconds remaining in the game to make it a 2-1 final.
Tyler Bancroft had a solid game in net behind the defense of Brent Siemens, Randy Taylor, Dallas Johnson and Brian Dickison. The 'Cats finish the year in second place in league standings and allowed the fewest goal of any team in their division.
Overall, CBC had a season record of 13 wins, 5 losses and 2 ties.
Soccer Wins 2-0

The men's soccer team played well against the team that eliminated them from Cup Play last month, as the 'Cats defeated Dewdney 2-0.
Doug Wiens drew a penalty kick that was converted by Achim Kohli to open the scoring. Greg Falk put Columbia up 2-0 when he volleyed in a poor clearance attempt by Dewdney.
The second half was scoreless as Dewdney had two players sent off with red cards early and decided to abandon the game. Tyler Bancroft earned the shutout in net behind the defense of Al Gillespie, Dave Klassen and Randy Taylor.
'Cats Eliminated from Cup Play

The men's soccer team lost 2-1 to Dewdney FC by penalty kicks to eliminate CBC from the playoffs.
Dewdney opened the scoring on a corner kick in the first half. CBC tied it up with 15 minutes remaining on a scramble in front of the net that the Dewdney keeper knocked the ball into his own net. Tyler Bancroft and Al Gillespie had some close chances to score late in regulation but could not execute their opportunities.
With the score tied after regulation, the game went straight to a penalty kicks. After five shooters each team had 4 goals, forcing sudden death. When the 'Cats 8th shooter hit the crossbar, Dewdney converted their next shot to win the game.
CBC keeper Dave Klassen made two saves during the shootout that was called back because he was deemed to have moved early.
The 'Cats will now finish the season with a few remaining league games.
Bringing It

The men's soccer team is on a roll. The 'Cats defeated Poco City 4-0 on Sunday, and have scored 11 goals in their last two games.
With the win, CBC ensured themselves of finishing no worse than second place. Phil Vallely opened the scoring when he curled a free kick over the PoCo wall and into the top corner. Vallely made it 2-0 in the second half with a great strike that took a deflection off a PoCo defender and into the net. Al Gillespie then made an amazing run from sweeper and set up Zach Dahl for a point blank tap in on an open net. Dahl got his second of the game when Doug Wiens flicked on a Gillespie goal kick. Dahl out battled the PoCo defender and slid the ball past the keeper.
John Morrison earned the shutout behind the solid defense of Gillespie, Brian Dickison, Randy Taylor and Dallas Johnson.
'Cats Win 7-1

The men's soccer team opened the scoring minutes into the game and continued to score, downing Five Corners 7-1.
Doug Wiens opened the scoring on a cross from Tyler Bancroft. Bancroft then got on the end of a cross from Greg Falk to make it 2-0. Wiens and Bancroft each scored again in the first half and sweeper Al Gillespie made an amazing run the length of the field with the ball to make it 5-0 at the half.
In the second, Gillespie added another while Alle Jan deVries notched his first goal of the season. Jon Morrison played goal for the 'Cats and was beaten once late in the game by a nice 25-yard strike.
Brian Dickison, Randy Taylor and Dallas Johnson were solid on defense all game long.
Big Win over Tigers

The men's soccer team took sole possession of second place with a 3-1 win over the GEU Tigers on Friday.
GEU scored the only goal of the first half on a penalty kick. The 'Cats took control of the game in the second half and evened the game when Doug Wiens crossed the ball to Joel Rempel who beat the GEU keeper. CBC took the lead when a cross from Tyler Bancroft deflected off the head of a GEU defender right into the path of Greg Falk, who buried his 4th goal of the year. Wiens rounded out the scoring after a nice through-ball from Bancroft.
David Klassen was solid in net behind the defense of Randy Taylor, Zach Dahl and Dallas McKelvie.
The win is the 'Cats third in a row and they now sit 8 points the league leading Aldergrove Undivided.
Bancroft Leads Charge

Tyler Bancroft scored two goals to lead the men's soccer team to a 3-2 win over PoCo City.
Phil Valley opened the scoring with a curling free kick that went just inside the post. PoCo quickly responded with a long shot that keeper Ben Schmidt misplayed. The 'Cats took the lead again when Bancroft got on the end of a long ball from Randy Taylor, beat the last defender, and tucked the ball past the PoCo keeper.
PoCo tied the game again just before the half on a shot from a bad angle that eluded everyone and found the back of the net.
In the second half, Bancroft scored one of the nicest goals of the year for CBC when he made a near-post run and headed in a perfectly placed corner-kick from Vallely.
The 'Cats sit with an overall season record of 7-4-2 and currently sit in 4th place in league standings. Play resumes on Friday, January 6 at 6:30 pm against GEU Tigers.
Domination
November 20, 2005
The CBC men's soccer team dominated Mission SC, winning 6-1 with two goals from Al Gillespie and Phil Vallely.
CBC opened the scoring when Gillespie was awarded a penalty kick after being tackled in the box. Tyler Bancroft took the shot and remained perfect on penalties this year. Greg Falk made it 2-0 before Mission got one back on a corner kick. The 'Cats turned on the pressure and added two more goals from Gillespie and Vallely to make it 4-1 at halftime.
Valley and Gillespie each added another in the second half to make the final 6-1.
Dave Klassen and Tyler Bancroft were solid on defense and outside midfielders Achim Kohli and Zach Dahl had strong games as well.
The win improves their league record to 5-2-2.
Up against the Best

The men's soccer team went up against the undefeated Aldergrove Undivided on Sunday and lost 1-0.
Aldergrove went up 1-0 when a clearing attempt by the CBC defense went off the head of an Aldergrove player and landed at his feet for an easy tap in.
The second half was dominated by the 'Cats but they were unable to get anything by the Aldergrove keeper. Zach Dahl, Al Gillespie, Greg Falk, Phil Vallely and Doug Wiens all had quality scoring chances that were thwarted by the 'grove keeper. Randy Taylor and David Klassen had a solid game on defense and limited the chances Aldergrove had on keeper Ben Schmidt.
Next up for the 'Cats (4-2-2) is Mission SC on November 20. Game time is 12 pm at Bateman #3.
Unbeaten in Five

The CBC men's soccer team is on a roll and unbeaten in its last five games after defeating Five Corner FC 1-0.
Phil Valley opened the scoring for the 'Cats on a pass from Tyler Bancroft. Bancroft later hit the post on a great strike while Achim Kohli headed the rebound but it was saved acrobatically by the Five Corners keepers. Vallely later had another great strike from 20 yards that struck the post.
The Beacats played a successful second half but one scary scramble in front of the CBC goal left fans in awe of the 'Cats defense as five consecutive shots were blocked within close range. Ben Schmidt earned the shutout.
"Our defense was solid today and we did a good job of defending our one goal lead," commented head coach Greg Falk.
Monday Night Soccer

The CBC men's soccer team came out with a 2-0 victory over the Trinity Western University Titans club team on Monday night.
CBC opened the scoring when Doug Wiens shot was saved but deflected onto the foot of Dave Klassen who scored his first of the year. The 'Cats added another goal late in the game when Al Gillespie stole the ball from a Titans defender to send in Wiens on a breakaway to put them up 2-0.
"Our defense was outstanding and (keeper) Ben Schmidt made some solid saves throughout the game," commented head coach Greg Falk.
Adhim Kohli and Tyler Bancroft also had solid games for the 'Cats.
The Titans compete in the Fraser Valley Soccer League Division III.
'Cats Roll

The men's soccer team rolled over Dewdney FC 5-1 on Saturday, extending their unbeaten streak to three games.
For the 'Cats, this was one of their best games of the year as they converted their opportunities and aggressively defended their goal. After a couple nice saves from the DFC keeper, CBC opened the scoring when Zach Dahl drew a penalty kick which was converted by Tyler Bancroft. CBC went up by two when Joel Rempel made a great run down the left side to score his first of the year.
In the second half, the 'Cats kept the pressure on and extended their lead by three when Bancroft found Phil Vallely at the top of the box for a great left-footed strike. DFC pulled one back on a counter-attack, but CBC finished strong with Vallely adding another goal and assisting on a goal by Al Gillespie.
The win improves their season record to 3-3-2.
Tame the Tigers

Despite hitting the crossbar three times, the men's soccer team managed a 2-2 tie with the GEU Tigers.
CBC played a strong first half and took a 1-0 lead when Zach Dahl played a nice pass to Al Gillespie, who dribbled around the keeper and scored. Tyler Bancroft nearly made it 2-0 but his free kick hit the crossbar.
The second half saw Gillespie and Joel Rempel each hit the crossbar before GEU scored two quick goals to take the lead. The 'Cats took back the momentum and were rewarded when Gillespie was taken down in the penalty are by the GEU keeper. Bancroft made good on the penalty kick to salvage a point for the 'Cats who have a record of 3-3-1 on the year.
The Bearcats are in action on Monday, October 17 when they take on the Trinity Western University Spartans club team at 6:30 pm at the Spartan south field.
'Cats blank United 4-0

The CBC men's soccer team played their best game of the year defeating GN Sikh United 4-0.
CBC dominated possession on the first half and went up 1-0 when defensemen Adhim Kohli played a cross to the head of Doug Wiens. The 'Cats scored again midway through the second half when Al Gillespie beat the United keeper. Wiens and Gillespie each added another goal before the final whistle.
Ben Schmidt and Dave Klassen shared the shutout with one half each in goal. Klassen also had an assist on Gillespie's second goal. Joel Rempel and Zach Dahl had strong games at the outside midfield positions. With the win the Bearcats improve their season record to 2-1-1.
Next game is Sunday October 9, 2:15 pm against Poco City.
'Cats vs. Clones

The men's soccer team gave up a 2-0 lead in the second half to tie the LUFC Clones 2-2 in the Fraser Valley Soccer League.
Phil Whatman made a nice run onto a Doug Wiens cross and chipped it over the goalie to give the 'Cats the early lead. CBC took a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the second half when Phil Vallely headed in a cross from Zach Dahl. The LUFC Clones, from Langley, pulled one goal back on a corner kick and then tied the game on a beautiful free kick on a very questionable foul call just outside the CBC box.
The second half was very physical, as both teams drew yellow cards.
The 'Cats remain unbeaten in their last two league games with a league record of 1-1-1.
'Cats swept by visiting Wolves

The men's soccer team hosted the Walla Walla Wolves for two exhibition games in Abbotsford and defeated the 'Cats in both games by scores 2-1 and 4-0.
In the opener, the Bearcats found themselves down 1-0 when they failed to clear a corner kick. A Wolves player came up with the loose ball on the goal line to give the visitors the lead. Midway through the second half another defensive miscue allowed a Walla Walla player to dribble into an open net. The 'Cats got to within one when Al Gillespie and Achim Kohli worked the ball down field before Gillespie sent Greg Falk on a breakaway. Despite a few late chances, CBC was unable to score.In the second game, the Wolves blanked the 'Cats 4-0. Walla Walla capitalized on an inexperienced keeper to score four first half goals. Doug Wiens a nd Zach Dahl played well as strikers and Tyler Bancroft had a solid game at center midfield.
The Wolves, from College Place Washington, compete in the NCCAA Division 1.

Al Gillespie and Greg Falk each scored for the 'Cats to lead their team to a 2-0 win over Mission SC. The win moves the Bearcats to 1-1 in the Fraser Valley Soccer League.
CBC came out strong and took the lead when Phil Vallely passed a through ball to Gillespie for a long breakaway run. He neatly tucked the ball into the far corner to make it 1-0. The 'Cats doubled their lead when Dallas Johnson challenged for a ball in the box. The resulting collision took out Johnson, two Mission defenders and the goalie, leaving the ball for Falk to dribble into the open net.
The 'Cats had several great scoring opportunities in the second half, but the Mission keeper made several big saves, including four breakaways. Ben Schmidt earned the shutout behind the solid defense of Randy Taylor, Zach Dahl, Jon Morrison and Dave Klassen.
Next up is the LUFC Clones on September 25 at 11:00 am.
'Cats Drop Opener 3-1

The CBC men's soccer team lost their first game of the season by a score of 3-1 to the Aldergrove Undivided.
Six rookies made their league debut today, and despite a core of returning veteran players like Al Gillespie, Randy Taylor and Phil Vallely, with only one practice under their belt this season, the Bearcats new they would have their work cut-out for them in the season opener. With a goal to build upon their success from last season, when the team posted an impressive 8-5-3 record, the early part of the season will allow this young squad to understand their strengths.
Aldergrove got up 2-0 before 4th year striker Al Gillespie fed a great through ball to Greg Falk to make it 2-1 before the half was over. The second half was evenly played, but Aldergrove scored the only goal on a free kick just outside the box. The 'Cats had their chances, when rookie Tyler Bancroft shot the ball just wide from in close, and Gillsepie getting stopped on a breakaway.
Newcomers Achin Kohliu, Zachery Dahl, and Doug Wiens made impressive debuts on the back-end. The 'Cats will be looking to a .500 record when they travel to Mission (Mission Sports Complex) to take on Mission SC on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 2:15 pm.
