Soccer goes 0-2
Feb. 18, 2007

The men's soccer team played two games this weekend and came away with two tough losses.

CBC opened the weekend against a solid Premier team on Friday in the second round of the Pakenham Cup. North Delta scored two goals in each half to win the game 4-0. The defense of Stewart Reimer, Zach Dahl, Jordan Eisenhauer and Dave Klassen was solid, limiting Delta to a few scoring chances. CBC had two good chances to score in the first half but Rhett Jewett and Brian Dean were both unable to slip the ball past a charging keeper.

CBC lost another close game on Sunday, this time 3-2 to the Dewdney Razorbacks. Dewdney opened the scoring on a free kick but the 'Cats quickly replied before the half when Joel Rempel scored. The Razorbacks then got two quick goals to start the second half to take a 3-1 lead. Brian Dean got one back for the 'Cats but that's as close as they would come. Dean had a good chance to tie the game in the final minutes but a diving Dewdney keeper got a hand on his bending shot.

The 'Cats will be looking for a win when they take on Aldergrove on Sunday February 25.

'Cats tie Delta
Feb. 9, 2007

The men's soccer team allowed a late goal by let Delta Metro to tie the 'Cats 1-1.

Two point blank headers and an easy tap-in were all put wide before Jordan Eisenhauer cracked a 30-yard free kick just under the bar to open the scoring. The Bearcats were clinging to a 1-0 lead when Delta managed to score in the final 15 minutes to tie the game.

The 'Cats had one glorious chance in the final minute but the CBC player but the ball just off the target.

Dave Klassen, Zach Dahl, Stuart Reimer and Eisenhauer played a strong game on defence for the Bearcats and also accounted for their only goal.

Unable to Finish
Feb. 5, 2007

The men's soccer team was unable to finish any of their scoring chances in a 3-1 loss to Surrey Sporting.

CBC's defense played well, but Surrey was able to finish on nearly every chance they had. Rhett Jewett hit the post and put the rebound just wide and strikers Tyler Bancroft and Elliot Westergaard were also unable to execute their opportunities.

Surrey built a 3-0 lead and CBC was only able to get one back when Erik Olson chipped the ball over the keeper after a scramble.

No shortage of scoring

'Cats rally in Cup Play
Nov. 11, 2006

The CBC men's soccer team found themselves down 2-0 early, but the team battled back to tie the game and send the game into a shoot-out.

CBC got off to a poor start and found themselves down 2-0 to a tough PoCo team after fifteen minutes of play. The Bearcats fought back and managed to get within one when Rhett Jewett and Tyler Bancroft set up Brian Dean for a shot that went off a PoCo defender and into the net. CBC tied the game up before halftime when an Elliot Westergaard corner kick was flicked into the box and Jewett was able to touch it into the back of the net. CBC had other good scoring chances, the best was from Stewart Reimer whose long shot was just tipped over the crossbar by a diving PoCO goalkeeper.

The second half started well for the Bearcats, with Westergaard just missing the far post after creating space for himself inside the PoCo box. That's when PoCo took over. The last twenty minutes of the game was all PoCo as they pressed hard for the winner, but the goalkeeping of Jeremy Lind kept the Bearcats tied until the final whistle.

In the penalty shootout, the Bearcats went a perfect 5 for 5 with goals from Bancroft, Mark Muller, Brian Dean, Jewett, and Zach Dahl. PoCo scored on their first 4 attempts, but their fifth shooter put the ball over the net to seal the victory for the Bearcats. Round 2 of the Pakenham Cup takes place in January.

Minutes later Rhett Jewett had a shot that went off the crossbar, but he made amends minutes later to put the 'Cats up 2-0. The Royals were able to score in the last minute of the first half to come within one but CBC kept going hard in the second half as Bancroft added two more goals, one on a penalty kick to make the final 4-1.

Stewart Reimer and Jordan Einsenhauer played strong defensive games while sweeper Dave Klassen also played well in his first game of the year.

Wolves keeper the difference
Sept. 22, 2006

If it were not for the stellar goaltending by the Walla Walla Wolves keeper, the 'Cats may have come away with two wins.

In Friday's match the 'Cats and Wolves went to a 2-2 draw. Erik Olson opened the scoring and the game remained 1-0 until early into the second half. That's when the Wolves scored two quick goals in a row, able to take the lead on miscommunication between the CBC keeper and centerback. Tyler Bancroft, who missed on a breakaway earlier in the game, made good on his shot with about 10 minutes remaining to tie the game. The 'Cats nearly had the winner late in the game when Brian Dean got behind the Wolves defense for a breakaway but his shot hit the post.

The story was much the same in Thursday's game, but this time the Wolves withstood the pressure of the 'Cats for a 3-2 win. Walla Walla opened the scoring on a corner kick that was deflected in the CBC goal. CBC tied the Wolves when Brian Dean beat the keeper to a through ball and had a gaping net to shoot at. After the Wolves scored on a scramble in front of the net, Greg Falk converted on a rebound to tie the game again. After several scoring chances by the 'Cats, the Wolves took advantage of a defensive miscue to tap in the winning goal.

"Their keeper played exceptional in these two games as he made several key saves in both games," commented head coach Greg Falk.

LUFC took a two goal lead early in the second to lead 4-2, but this time the 'Cats responded with four unanswered goals to finish the game. Bancroft scored his second of the game to get within one, newcomer Erik Olson scored to tie the game, and Elliot Westergaard scored the winner. Cale Stanage came into the game as a late sub and scored the insurance marker.

The win extended CBC's winning streak to two games overall. On September 15 the 'Cats defeated the TWU Titans 1-0 in exhibition play. Rhett Jewett scored the lone goal of the game and Jeremy Lind earned the shutout.

The 'Cats are up against the Walla Walla Wolves in exhibition play this week. The 'Cats play September 21 at 4:00 pm and September 22 at 1:00 pm.

Division 1 Welcome
Sept. 8, 2006

After only a couple practices to prepare for their first match, the 'Cats new they would be in tough as the team has about 12 new players in the fold.

The Mariners opened the scoring but the 'Cats quickly responded to tie the game on a nice goal from John Clark, but three unanswered goals made it 4-1 at the half.
