Lakers overpower visiting 'Cats

The CBC women's basketball team closed out their season by losing 81-36 to the Okanagan University College Lakers.
The 'Cats, who have injuries to a couple starters, could not contain the speed and quickness of the Lakers but were held to only 27 points in the second half.
Alisha Marriot led the team with 12 points while Anali Taylor had 9 points.
Basketball splits with visiting Wolves

The women's basketball team won in overtime 80-75 on Saturday but lost 65-54 on Sunday to split with the visiting Walla Walla Wolves.
In their opening game, the 'Cats trailed 43-31 at the half before outscoring the Wolves 35-23 in the final frame. The Bearcats led 66-64 in the late going before the Wolves tied the game with 1 second on the clock to force the game to overtime.
In overtime Julie Rempel and Anali Taylor hit two big shots from beyond the arc to outscore the Wolves 14-9. The Bearcats won the game 80-75 and expanded their winning streak to two games.
Anali Taylor had the hot-hand and shot 7/14 from the three to finish with a team-high 28 points. Alisha Marriott went 7/7 from the free throw line and finished with 21 points. The 'Cats outrebounded the Wolves 62-59.
In the second game the 'Cats led 32-28 at the half but were outscored 37-22 in the final frame and lost 65-54. Marriot led the team with 13 points while Julie Rempel and Brianna Doerksen had 12 points apiece.
The Bearcats close out the season with a game at Okanagan University College on Friday, Feb. 4.
Historical win for 'Cats

The women's basketball team showed they can compete against BC College teams after defeating the 5th ranked Langara Falcons 65-60.
Playing in exhibition games this year in preparation for joining the BCCAA league next season, the 'Cats have showed that they have every intention to step into the league and compete.
The 'Cats led 38-28 at the half and were able to withstand the Falcons charge in the second half after being slightly outscored 32-27.
"We've improved so much over the last couple months so it's great to see the hard work paying off", commented head coach Amber Beauregard.
First-year guard Julie Rempel led the charge with 16 points while newcomer Alisha Marriot hit some big free throws down the stretch to finish with 15 points. Anali Taylor was 2/4 beyond the arc and contributed with 14 points. Alea Beaumont was strong on the boards to lead her team with 10.
Overall the 'Cats shot 43.6% from the field compared to the Falcons 29.1%.
The Falcons currently sit in 5th place in the BCCAA standings with a 6-4 record.
The 'Cats will look to continue their successful play when the host Walla Walla College on Saturday at 6:00 pm and on Sunday at 12:00 pm. These will be the final home games of the season for the women's basketball team.
Bearcats take on Cascades

The top ranked UCFV Cascades paid a visit to Columbia Place to take on the 'Cats.
The 'Cats kept it close for the first 10 minutes of the game before the more experienced Cascades pulled away and led 41-17 at the half. The Bearcats scored 16 more points in the final frame to the Cascades 28 and lost 69-33.
Overall, it was a great effort by the 'Cats - a program in its infancy with a lot of potential for the future. Next season Columbia will be jumping to the BC College league, a league where the Cascades currently sit with a undefeated record.
6'1" post Alea Beaumont led the 'Cats with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Alisha Marriot, a transfer from Lethbridge Community College, was impressive in her debut and scored 9 points before fouling out midway through the second half. Julie Rempel finished with 7 points.
The cross-town rival Cascades were led by Natasha Kosolofski who tallied 13 points and Laura Hallinan with 12 points. The Cascades shot 43.3% from the field to the 'Cats 27.5%.
Rempel scores 19 in loss to Eagles
October 31, 2004
Julie Rempel shot 9/14 from the field and finished with 19 points and 8 boards in a loss against Kwantlen University College Eagles on Saturday.
The Eagles defeated the 'Cats 76-51.
The 'Cats started the game a little flat and the Eagles took advantage and took the lead. Kwantlen continued to be aggressive all game with their defensive press and made good on their opportunities. The Eagles shot 37.5% from the field compared to the Bearcats 34%.
6'0" post Alea Beaumont carried the team with 17 points (4/8 FG) and 10 rebounds.
"We were disapointed we didn't play better but Kwantlen played a great defensive game and really pressed us into mistakes" commented head coach Amber Beauregard.
Notables: The 'Cats shot 48% from the free throw line (12/25) compared the Eagles 85% (17/20)...The Eagles had 17 points from turnovers to the 'Cats 5.
Blues too much for 'Cats

The CBC women's basketball team lost 78-50 to the visiting Capilano College Blues.
Playing in their first home game of the season, the 'Cats showed little resilience in the first half and were down 35-30. The 'Cats seemed to run out of momentum in the second half by scoring only 20 points to the Blues 43 points.
Alea Beaumont led the team with 17 points while Julie Rempel also had a strong game and tallied 16 points.
The 'Cats now turn their attention to Kwantlen College whom they face on Saturday night at 5:00 pm at CBC.
Bearcats and Eagles Collide
October 14, 2004
The CBC women's basketball team played in their first BCCAA exhibition game on Wednesday, Oct. 13.
Playing at Kwantlen University College, the 'Cats showed they can compete and trialed the Eagles 33-26 at the half. CBC ran into some foul trouble in the second half and couldn't sustain their momentum and lost 69-44.
The 'Cats were led by Anali Taylor who had 13 points while Brianna Doerkson had 12 points.
"It was a great physical game and everyone played hard and contributed. This is a good start to our season", commented head coach Amber Beauregard.
Beauregard joins Bearcats
August 11, 2004
Columbia Athletics is pleased to announce that Amber Beauregard has been hired as the Head Coach for the women's basketball team for the 2004-05 season.
Beauregard brings a wealth of playing experience as an alumni of Trinity Western University where she played for five seasons, beginning in 1994. She was the team captain in 1998 and 1999 while also coaching at W.J. Mouat Secondary, including Head Coach of the Senior Girls in 2000-2001. Recently Beauregard worked as an Assistant Coach for the women's basketball team at Trinity Western University from 2002-2004.
"We are very excited to have a coach of Amber's calibre and expertise join our program", commented Athletic Director Tim Demant.
The 2004-05 season marks the beginning of the women's basketball program at Columbia.
