COLUMBIA OPEN 2006 ... TUESDAY MAY 2ND
144 golfers converged on the beautiful
grounds of Chilliwack Golf & Country Club for the 10th annual
Columbia Open fundraising golf tournament. The weather couldn't
have been better and just added to the success of the day. Pro
golfer, Philip Jonas shared his skill and expertise during a free
pre-tournament golf clinic. Golfers then had the opportunity to
cast their bid to have Phil join their foursome for the remainder of
the tournament. Sysco Food Services graciously donated and
grilled burgers for a hot BBQ lunch on the back patio. Along with
several merit competitions, the tournament also featured two
hole-in-one competitions ... a shiny, new Mazda 3 donated by VIP Mazda
in Abbotsford, BC on hole #17 and a $5,000 cash prize donated by Dundee
Securities on hole #12.
Following
the tournament, golfers and guests were invited back to Columbia Place
for the program, banquet and Silent Auction. Gerald Thiessen and
the staff of Columbia Catering put on a superb buffet dinner while Greg
Norlin, worship pastor/songwriter from Northside Community Church in
Mission, BC provided the background music. The Silent Auction
featured some spectacular items on which to bid including several get
aways, golf and sports items, original paintings by local artists, home
improvements, and much more.
The Planning Committee, together with many volunteers and our generous
sponsors worked very hard to ensure the success of this year's event
and we are grateful for the particaption and support!
