How do you live your best possible life?

It's not a question you should skip. God put you together just so - your personality, your talents, your passions. And there's nothing more worthwhile than taking a year to explore what it will mean for you to live an amazing, Christ-centered life. 

Columbia One is a chance for you to explore your calling within a fun, caring community. You'll tackle a series of foundational courses designed to give you a solid grasp on your Christian faith.  You'll study the Old and New Testaments, discover Christian theology, engage in spiritual formation, and learn the habits of following and serving Jesus.

Columbia One gives you the freedom to pursue your interests. With nine credits of elective room, plus one bible elective, you have options! (See what courses are typically offered in the Fall and Winter semesters.)

The Columbia One Core


All Columbia One students complete the same series of core courses. This 22-credit package of courses has been carefully put together with you in mind.  What do you need to learn so you can live a no-regrets life that is Christ-centered, kingdom-focused, and world-impacting?

With Columbia One, you have the flexibility and freedom to explore your unique interests. You have room in your program for four electives: one bible/theology elective and three free electives (meaning you choose any course that's open as long as you have the prerequisites!)

Because Columbia One doesn't require weekend trips, you also have the opportunity to get involved in a long list of extracurricular programs and activities.

This means you can tailor your Columbia One program to focus on what you're most curious or passionate about.

Culture Stream

The Culture Stream

Formerly known as PRAXISthe Culture stream of Columbia One is a chance for you to grapple with the intriguing question of how your Christian faith connects with the complex world around you.

Features of the Culture Stream:

Down Arrow Introduction to Culture

You'll take Introduction to Culture, a fascinating course that will you give the foundation and tools to reflect on your own participation as a Christian in the culture around you, everything from sweeping aspects of culture (like political and economic systems) to the everyday things you do like shopping, eating, Instagramming, and watching Netflix.


Down Arrow Culture Cohort

You'll belong to the Christianity & Culture cohort, meaning you'll travel through all your core courses with the same group of students and be able to bounce ideas off each other as you learn together. You'll also meet regularly as a small group to hang out, pray, discuss, and eat together.


Down Arrow Cultural Adventures

You'll go on cultural adventures! Together with your cohort, you'll go on monthly field-trips to help you engage with the arts, social justice issues, and the marketplace. You'll do things like explore the city and neighbourhoods of Vancouver, see films and concerts, go to the theatre, do volunteer work together, and visit different churches.

Note that students pay a one-time $500 fee that covers cost of all activities, including transportation.

Down Arrow New York City Trip

You'll be first in line for the New York City trip.This trip happens during Spring Reading Week and puts you in the heart of the Big Apple, where you are guaranteed unforgettable cultural experiences that will stimulate you to think through how faith and culture connect.

(This trip is open to anyone in the Intro to Culture class, but priority is given to the Culture cohort and participation is capped at 18 students. Cost is $2000 per person.)

Certificate in Christian Studies

Columbia One students enroll in the same core requirements as all first year students. In addition to these core program requirements, Columbia One students have the flexibility to choose electives from various disciplines and tailor the program to fit their desired educational outcomes.

Columbia One students earn a Certificate in Christian Studies (31 credits). Graduates are able to transfer easily into most diploma and degree programs at Columbia. Options include the:

David Warkentin has an MA in Theological Studies (Christianity and Culture) from Regent College and is fascinated by the intersection between faith and culture. His passion is to lead, teach, and mentor students as thoughtful, engaged Christ-followers in the world today. When he’s not in the classroom, David can be found paddle boarding, disc golfing, and exploring both cities and mountains with his wife Julie and two kids.
