Bible Lectures 2020

Two Public Lectures

How did we get the Bible? Can we trust the Bible?

With Apologetics Canada speaker Wesley Huff.

As part of the Apologetics Canada 2020 Conference (March 6-7), Apologetics Canada is hosting two free lectures open to the public, with speaker Wesley Huff. Both lectures explore foundational questions related to the Christian Scriptures - how the Bible came to be, and what make the Bible a trustworthy document. Join us for one lecture, or both!

Presenter Wesley Huff, PhD(candidate)

Wesley Huff

Wesley Huff was born in Multan, Pakistan and spent a portion of his childhood in the Middle East. After being diagnosed with a rare neurological condition at the age of 11 that left him paralyzed from the waist down he experienced a miraculous recovery that the doctors themselves said they had no medical explanation for. This experience, along with a great deal of study and soul searching in his later teens helped his interest in the subjects of faith, and engaging the beliefs and worldview perspectives of others. Wesley holds a BA in sociology from York University, a Masters of Theological Studies from Tyndale Seminary, and is currently a PhD student in New Testament at the University of Toronto's Wycliffe College. He has participated in numerous talks and interfaith dialogue events at universities across Canada and has been participating in public dialogues on issues of faith, belief, and religion for the last ten years. He enjoys canoeing, archery, and cats (although not all three at the same time). Wes lives in Toronto with his wife Melissa and their son, Eli.

Lecture 1: How Did We Get the Bible?

What we call “the Bible” is a collection of sixty-six books written over a period of sixteen-hundred years on three different continents by forty different authors. How did this all come together? Where, when, and by whom were these books written? And how does all of this information get us to the year 2020 with a single-volume book that Christians for thousands of years have held to as the authoritative word of God?

Lecture 2: Can We Trust the Bible?

How can we trust our Bibles when there has been so much time between now and when the authors wrote the original letters? Hasn’t the text been corrupted over the years? How do we know what we have now is what the original authors wrote millennia ago, and even if we could demonstrate that, how do we know what they’re saying is true?
